As preface

I would like to thank the VDH for allowing Germany to host the FCI World Championship for Tracking Dogs at such short term. It takes a lot of preparation, such as providing sufficient terrain for around 100 tracks, an organizing association and a responsible local group, as well as many reliable tracklayers, to ensure that the largest event in the field of tracking dogs can be held. But also the entire organization around the track, pilot service, supply in the field, dignified opening and closing ceremony represent a great challenge. Therefore, many thanks once again to all those who contribute to the success of this event.

We are always fascinated by our dogs’ nose work. In this area, dogs are far superior to us and we can only guess what abilities our dogs have. To be successful in this sport, however, a dog’s predisposition isn’t enough. Consistent and intensive training is required so that the dog can fulfill the requirements of the test in the best possible way. In tracking, we are more dependent on the dog than in any other area of dog sport. The dog takes on the leading role here. In the sport of tracking, too, the dogs that come out on top are those with the best working dog characteristics, such as strong nerves and instincts.

I hope that all participants will be able to deliver the expected performances at this event. A world championship also offers the opportunity to make new friends at an international level and to deepen long-standig friendships. I wish the event a successful outcome.
